It is surely one of the more offensive pieces I have ever seen written about American politics. Self-righteous in tone, it makes the unbelievable assertion that the Democratic Party should ignore the will of 15,805,136 citizens who voted for Hillary Clinton to be the Democratic nominee, instead deferring to the wisdom of one Mr. Wetmore. Has there ever been a more undemocratic assertion? Is Mr. Wetmore one of those legion white folks who have denigrated people of color who have steadfastly supported Secretary Clinton this year? No idea. Is Mr. Wetmore so intelligent as to override the collective wisdom and intelligence of over 15 million other people? No. Mr. Wetmore’s arrogance is exceeded only by his foolishness in thinking that anyone cares what he thinks. Fortunately, the Democratic Party will not even notice Mr. Wetmore’s absurd piece, so it won’t need to ignore it. There is an appropriate receptacle for a column like this. It isn’t the Tidings. Art Mills Ashland Backing Hillary I respectfully disagree with the guest opinion of Bob Wetmore. I am a registered Democrat. I am more progressive than Hillary Clinton, but I am solidly behind her for president. She has won the primary and earned my vote for the following reasons: She is a strong supporter of women’s issues which are under attack. She will nominate a Supreme Court justice whom I respect. She recognizes global warming/climate change and will address it. She understands policy and how government works. She is inclusive of minorities and will not discriminate on the basis of race, religion or sexual orientation. She is not owned by the NRA. I could go on. Republicans have been relentless in discrediting Ms. Clinton. Not everyone is taken in by their campaign of disparagement. Ms. Clinton is a highly qualified candidate. She has won the primary campaign. She has been endorsed by her worthy opponent, Bernie Sanders. Let’s get behind her and give her a big win.
