Ashland Ski Area to open one lift Friday » Social News Mt. Ashland Ski Area will open the Ariel Chair for the first time this season today, Jan. 2, for experts only, it announced Thursday. The ski area currently has a 19 to 32 inch base and has just enough snow to offer top to bottom skiing. “Continuing the promise we made to open what we can, when we can, we have been focusing resources on opening the Ariel lift,” says Hiram Towle, Mt. Ashland’s general manager. “We encourage everyone to ride with extreme caution due to the early season conditions and numerous unmarked obstacles. We highly suggest bringing your rock skis and snowboards due to low snow.”  In an effort to attract more guests to the ski area on a day when there are typically fewer skiers, Mt. Ashland starts offering a new program, $99 Car Load Monday, on Monday, Jan. 5. Up to seven legally seat belted passengers per care pay $99.  “Not only are Car Load Mondays good on the wallet, but they are good on the environment by encouraging people to carpool and reduce their carbon footprint,” said Towle.
