--> --> Tidings takes three ONPA awards Ashland Daily Tidings The Ashland Daily Tidings was honored with three awards at the recent Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association 2001 Better Newspaper Contest. A photograph by Denise Baratta of tree-sitter Rick Harris - who protested the cutting of library trees by living in one for a few weeks in November 2000 - took third place in the best news photo category. This is the fourth straight year Baratta has taken home a photo award from the annual contest. Tidings reporter Maggie McGehee's story on rising Ashland High School dropout rates took third place in the enterprise reporting category, and former Tidings education reporter Mercedes Binh Ly's story "Buddies for beautification" received a third-place award in the feature story category. The Tidings competes against other Oregon newspapers with 10,000 or less circulation. ONPA, founded in 1887, is a professional association of the state's 89 daily and nondaily paid circulation newspapers. Email your...
