Our Accord delivers 24 city and 34 highway mpg efficiency and also boasts exemplary owner reliability ratings that date back to 2011 as “near perfect.” Competing in the mid-size class, Accord’s history dates back to 1976 when it arrived on American soil as a two-door, 68-horsepower, 2,000-pound sub-compact (by today’s standards). Accord quickly became a Honda best seller, and then grew in size from the “one-ton midget” it was to its current 3,200- to 3,500-pound mid-size footprint. Built in Marysville, Ohio, Honda Accord is also the very first foreign car ever to be built in America. (Kudos to Honda.) Completely restyled two years ago, this new-generation Accord features a sleeker design that is more muscular while still adhering to Accord’s more conservative exterior shape history. Notably, the new design redefines the amount of standard amenities offered in entry level models a la Accord LX, which starts at just $22,105. Included with every Honda order this year is a standard rear view safety camera across the board, which my regular readers know pleases Test Drive to no end. As one of the top rated mid-size cars in America according to Consumer Reports, owner ratings on the new generation Accord from years 2013 and 2014 find only one area of concern, which had to do with the radio/stereo system. Mechanical and build quality were all well above average to downright perfect, and this dates back all the way back to the last generation in 2011. Thus, consumers who purchase any of the 2015 Accord models (or a leftover) can expect trouble free driving throughout ownership. Competing with Honda in the popular mid-size division are Mazda6, Camry, Fusion, Malibu, Sonata, Chrysler 200, Dart and Altima, all solid competitors. Honda does extremely well in comparison tests, however, and is still respected as a sought after vehicle take will take up space in America’s driveways. Our Accord Sport came with no options thanks to a Honda’s well-appointed standard feature list. Included are features like Intelligent Multi-Information 8-inch display with the rear camera, hill start assist, 10-way power driver seat, vehicle stability assist, dual chrome exhaust tips, four-wheel disc ABS, traction control, Eco assist system, vehicle stability control, large 18-inch tires on alloy wheels, security system with remote entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, hands free Bluetooth, text messaging, tilt and telescopic leather steering wheel with buttons for cruise, audio, and phone, Pandora internet radio, all the airbags, USB audio interface with MP3 and more. Consumers move up the Accord ladder after the entry LX and our tester Sport ($23,865) to EX ($25,030), EX-L ($28,420), EX-L V-6 ($30,495) and top line Touring V-6 ($33,630), the latter loaded with numerous luxury amenities and a powerful V-6 under the hood. Speaking of the V-6, get ready for some real Honda horsepower and good fuel mileage, too. The 278 horsepower feels more like 350 ponies and the non-CVT six-speed automatic is properly geared for both performance and economy. The four-cylinder, meanwhile, delivers 185 horses and 181 lb. ft. of torque, certainly good enough for most. For me, I’d love to see Honda add some horses to the four, be it a turbo or more inches. On the highway, our Accord Sport is ready for any type roadway thanks to a front strut and rear multi-link independent suspension. You’ll enjoy secure handling thanks to the 18-inch rubber yet also appreciate a fairly quiet ride and refined interior appointments. Overall, the cabin is well done and comfortable. Important numbers include a wheelbase of 109.3 inches, 3,276-pound curb weight, 15.8 cubic feet of cargo space and a 17.2-gallon fuel tank. There’s little not like about the 2015 Honda Accord, especially the lower-priced versions. You owe it to yourself to see and drive one if you are shopping this jam-packed market as Accord is a rock-solid choice regardless of dress. 2015 Honda Accord Entry price: $22,105 Price as tested: $24,655 Likes: New generation, standard safety items, owner ratings.
