Maguin, a senior from Fernley, Nev., who won her first 400-meter hurdles NAIA national title two weeks ago, is the third Raider woman to win the award and first since Tiwana Merritt was also honored in a vote by the coaches in 2002. "I was really excited," Maguin said of learning of her most recent award Wednesday. "I thought it was all over so I wasn't expecting them to do another award. I think that's pretty cool." Maguin won three titles in the CCC Championships in the 100 hurdles, 400 hurdles and 400-meter dash — giving her five career league titles — and placed second in the 200. She also helped SOU's 4x400 relay team take second and was named the Women's Athlete of the Meet. "She was a national champion, part of three school records this year and won that title at the NAIA meet by two seconds, so obviously she's well-deserving of the award," SOU coach Grier Gatlin said. "Right now, you'd have to say she's arguably the best sprinter in the history of this school." Maguin, who also placed fifth in the 400 at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships, qualified for the outdoor nationals in four individual events in addition to the 4x800 relay, and set school records in the 200, the 100 hurdles and 400 hurdles.  Maguin says more races could be in her future. "I really want to continue competing and I know that coach Gatlin is trying to work something out so I can do more competitive meets," she said, "but I'm not sure if it's going to happen." Concordia's Matthew Clowes was voted the CCC Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Year.
