The blaze was reported at 12:04 a.m. at 593 Oak Knoll Drive, Ashland Fire and Rescue officials said. It took fire crews about 10 minutes to contain the blaze, which started in the master bedroom. Dave Hard, assistant fire chief, said the fire appears to have started on a night stand. Because of the extent of the damage, fire officials were unable to determine the exact cause of the fire. They were able to narrow the cause to either an electrical fire in an alarm clock, or from a cigarette or lit match. An adult female, the only resident home at the time, was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene. The woman, who was sleeping at the time, was alerted to the blaze by the home's smoke detector, Hard said. "If there hadn't been an alarm, who knows what would have happened," he said. "The smoke alarm made the difference." Hard said heavy smoke caused significant damage to most of the home. Damage to the home and its contents was estimated at $50,000.
