OSHER LIFELONG LEARNING INSTITUTE Signups underway for classes for older adults Enrollment now yields full academic year's worth of access By Daily Tidings staff report DailyTidings.com By Daily Tidings staff report Posted Sep. 5, 2014 @ 5:20 pm By Daily Tidings staff report Posted Sep. 5, 2014 @ 5:20 pm » Social News Annual member signups and fall course registration for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Southern Oregon University are underway. This past year, over 1,400 adults enrolled in the Rogue Valley. For an annual fee of $125, members can make unlimited selections, space permitting, from among as many as 100 peer-taught courses offered in each of three academic quarters, September through June, and attend classes both in Ashland and Medford. There is no fee charged per course. OLLI membership provides both intellectual stimulation and social connection, organizers say. The range of topics offered this fall includes selections in art history, film, games, health, history, literature, music, personal development, science, technology, theater and writing. There are no tests or grades and no prior degree is required. Learning can be enjoyable for both members and peer instructors. Members establish connections with others not just through class discussions but also by participating in OLLI operations and governance. Enrollment can occur at any time during the year, but enrolling now ensures enjoying a full academic year of benefits. Course registration for fall is available online or in the OLLI office on a first-come, first-served basis and continues throughout the fall term. Membership fees have been kept low through member donations and the generosity of the Bernard Osher Foundation. There is no official age restriction on membership, but the program is geared towards those aged 50-plus. Support of lifelong learning for older adults is a key area of focus for the Osher Foundation. For more information about OLLI, including a complete list of the courses offered this fall and office locations, visit www.sou.edu/olli or call 541-552-6048.
