Facing a 14-13 deficit, Ashland quarterback Danial White lifted the Bears to their most clutch win of the season by throwing a touchdown pass to Adrian Garcia with 43 seconds to go. The Bears (6-0) have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 240-50. The team, made up of players ages 9-11, has received donations from Ashland Kiwanis ($400) and the NFL ($800), and was also granted use of the Ashland Texaco gas station car wash for a fundraiser that raised another $500. The Bears, coached by former Ashland High quarterback Greg White, play the Medford Steelers (5-1) at noon Saturday at the Ashland High practice field. Basketball camp The Southern Oregon women's basketball team's annual Play Camp for kids ages 3 through sixth grade will be held form 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday at McNeal Pavilion. The fundraiser, billed as a chance for kids to have fun and parents to take a night off, costs $25 per child and $10 for each additional child. Boys Basketball Club Tryouts for the Ashland Boys Basketball Club, a league for boys in fifth through eighth grade, will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 28 in the Ashland Middle School Gym. There will be no cuts for the fifth- and sixth-grade teams. The eighth-grade tryout is at 10 a.m.; the seventh-grade tryout is at noon; the sixth-grade tryout is at 2 p.m. and the fifth-grade tryout is at 4 p.m. An additional session will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 1. For more information, call 890-2159. Correction The Ashland High boys' soccer team will host Eagle Point at 1 p.m. Saturday at Walter A. Phillips Field. The Tidings erroneously reported Wednesday that the game would be played at 7 p.m. The Grizzlies are dominating the Souther Sky Conference with a 5-0 league record, two games better than second-place Crater.
