The burglaries appeared to have occurred over the weekend, Sgt. Bob Smith said this morning. Shortly after 8 a.m. Monday, employees at Key Bank on East Main Street discovered the bank had been broken into and $2,200 in nickels, dimes and quarters had been stolen. About the same time, Umpqua Bank on Pioneer Street reported a $2,000 surveillance camera system located at the drive-thru window area had been taken. Later in the morning, The Elks Lodge on East Main Street reported the front and back area surveillance cameras valued at $900 had been stolen. Smith said detectives are looking into leads. He said the three burglaries may be related. Smith said the Key Bank burglary fits the pattern of other bank burglaries that have occurred recently in the Rogue Valley in the Medford area. He said it's unusual for someone to take only coins. Smith said the subjects probably plan to either cash the money in at different times, or spend it slowly. The cameras were probably stolen to be sold or to be used in someone's home or business, he said. 12:46 a.m. Tuesday - Male transient, 36, causing public alarm and threatening others on Morton Street, arrested for disorderly conduct and lodged at Jackson County Jail in Medford. 8 p.m. Monday - Man, 32, arrested for criminal trespassing when he refused to get out of complainant's car on 100 block of Fork Street. 7 a.m. Monday - Wall spray painted at Walker Elementary School on Walker Avenue.
