WEATHER Snow expected on valley floor Monday Temperatures to drop to teens on Tuesday Comment By Tidings staff report DailyTidings.com By Tidings staff report Posted Dec. 28, 2014 at 7:36 PM By Tidings staff report Posted Dec. 28, 2014 at 7:36 PM » Social News Snow will fall on the valley floor this afternoon and the temperature will fall into the teens and low 20s Tuesday and Wednesday, National Weather Service forecasters predicted on Sunday afternoon. Up to an inch of snow will drop on elevations from 1,500 to 2,500 feet, the NWS said in a special weather statement, with greater accumulations at higher elevations creating hazardous conditions on mountain pass roads. Ashland is at about 2,000 feet; Siskiyou Summit on Interstate 5 is at about 4,310 feet and Mt. Ashland is at 7,533 feet. As of Sunday evening, the Oregon Department of Transportation recommended motorists carry chains or use traction tires over Siskiyou Summit. An Arctic cold front moving through the area will drop highs to near freezing Tuesday and Wednesday, accompanied by gusty winds at times. The Mt. Ashland Ski Area will remain open through the balance of the holidays, conditions permitting, it said in a media release Sunday afternoon, with three lifts operating daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Earlier this week, Mt. Ashland received 6 to 11 inches of snow, a couple of inches fell on Sunday and more snow is in the forecast for Monday, the statement said. “The Mountain Operations team has done a phenomenal job of working with the snow we have,” says Hiram Towle, Mt Ashland’s general manager. “We are closely monitoring the situation and will add more terrain as conditions allow.” As of Sunday afternoon, Mt.
