employer for telecom muting to be successful. Asid e from the obvious benefits to reducing peak hour
travel dem and, telecom muting can also have bene fits by expanding the geographic area from which
employees can be recruited and retained, reduc ing office space costs and employee absenteeism ,
increasing productivity and other benefits.
Education
RVTD presents a variety of classes to over 6,000 students each y ear. Most of the students are in grades K
through 12. RVTD’s three m ain education program s are “Bicy cle as Transportation”, “Gus Rides the
Interactive Bus”, and “Young at Heart”. All of RV TD’s education program s focus on alternatives to
driving alone.
Group Bus Pass Program
As noted in the discussion above of ridership by different fare categories, RVTD currently operates a
group bus pass program aim ed prim arily at m ajor em ployers or colleges. Under this program , RVTD
provides extrem ely low cost bus passes for employees who are willing to purchase passes for all of their
employees. Prices can be as low as 31 cents per m onth per em ployee for the first y ear (after taking the
State of Oregon Business Energy Tax Credit). S outhern Oregon University and Rogue Com munity
College are current full tim e users of the Group Bus P ass. In recent y ears Bear Creek Corporation has
purchased a group bus pass for its em ployees for five m onths out of the y ear.
Air Transportation

Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport
The Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport is the area’s only provider of regularly -scheduled
commercial airline service. The airport offers air passenger and air freight transportation opportunities to
residents and businesses in the Rogue Valley by providi ng a national and international connection to the
region. Currently , air passenger service is provided by Horizon Airlines (linking Medford to Portland,
Seattle and Los Angeles), United Express (connecti ng to Portland, San Francisco and Denver), and
America West (connecting to Phoenix). The airport also provides service to general aviation aircraft, as
well as offering private, com mercial, non-passenger re lated services (such as Erickson Air Crane) that
operate from private helipads. Reliever service for general aviation and air freight service is provided at
the Ashland Municipal Airport when visibility in Medford is below m inimums due to fog or other
inclem ent weather.
The Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport is located north and east of I-5 between Highway 62
(Crater Lake Highway ) and Table Rock Road, entirel y within the Medford Urban Growth Boundary (see
Figure 3-4). Parking is available at the airport operating 24 hours a day , seven day s a week. Current
parking rates range from $2.00 per hour for short-te rm parking with a $12.00 per day maximum to $1.25
per hour for long-term with a $5.50 per day maximum.
Public transportation to the airport from various lo cations in Medford is available through privately
operated taxis, shuttle services, and RVTD. Upon a dvance request, RVTD will deviate Route 60 to serve
the airport. Bicy cle and pedestrian facilities are av ailable to the airport site along Biddle Road, however,
facilities for direct access to the term inal using these m odes are m inimal.
