Intruder Dies After Confrontation With Oregon Homeowner During Attempted Break-In Crime & Courts By Lucille McNamara On Mar 16, 2026 Courtesy: Bend Police Department, Oregon Bend Police detectives are investigating the death of an intruder following a confrontation with the resident during an attempted break-in at a property on NW Braid Drive. Tidings Insight Oregon law allows deadly physical force only in limited situations, including when a person reasonably believes someone is committing a burglary in a dwelling. The incident occurred shortly before midnight last Thursday. When police responded to the scene on the 3500 block, they were informed that the resident had confronted the intruder , and a struggle ensued. The intruder then fled the scene on foot. Tidings Timeline March 12, 11:45 p.m. : Resident reports attempted break in on NW Braid Drive Officers arrive : Resident says struggle happened and intruder ran Soon after : Resident taken for treatment with non life threatening injuries Area search : Officers find intruder on nearby golf course Then : Detectives take over the death investigation The resident was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a hospital, but the intruder suffered severe injuries and succumbed.
