They are the most secretive, vindictive administration in many decades. They have lied about their environmental intentions, they have lied about the cost and benefits of the Medicare bill, they have lied about who really benefits from the tax cuts, they have lied about their cozy relationship with the Saudis, they have lied about what they knew before 9/11, and what they should have/could have done with that information. And their most obscene lies are the ones about WMD's, Saddam/al Qaeda connections, and the "imminent threat" Saddam posed to the United States, all of which have cost billions of taxpayer dollars, (and counting), countless thousands of Iraqi civilian lives, (and counting), and more than 700 fine, courageous American lives, (and counting!!). They have even lied about how long they had been planning to invade Iraq. (PLEASE take the time to investigate their own neoconservative, imperialistic manifesto at www.newamericancentury.org/, and the books of Paul O'Neill and Richard Clarke.) This administration has no moral conscience when attacking the truthtellers (from their own 'camp'!) who make an attempt to break through the veil of secrecy and deceit. They have no apparent reservations about even using the Supreme Court to perpetuate that secrecy and deceit (re: Justice Scalia refusing to recuse himself from ruling on the release of information from Dick Cheney's Energy Task Force, even after accepting a free flight on Cheney's Air Force 2, for a weekend of hunting adventures on a private hunting reserve, with Cheney!) That is legal AND moral bankruptcy! Don't you smell it...the stench of this democracy rotting from within? How can anybody (who is not either devoid of the capacity for moral outrage, or living in serious denial), still support and approve of what the Bush Presidency is doing? Take a good whiff...it's stinkin' to high heaven! Hal Davis Ashland Ideas on global warming It is pleasing to read in various newspapers and scientific publications that not everyone subscribes to the notion that we humans are totally responsible for any changes to the earth's climate. In fact there is ample evidence that our activities have little effect and the scientific jury is still out as to whether the earth's climate is actually making a turn for the worse. There are simply too many natural variables controlling the weather, ranging from the strong possibility that our sun is a variable star and emits varying amounts of solar energy, to the effect of the huge blooms of diatoms in southern oceans that sequester carbon dioxide in their skeletal structure, to claim any definitive knowledge as to the actual cause of climate change. Scientists are unsure of the totality of the cause and effect. Sure, I have read that about 1,600 scientists have attested to major human responsibility for perceived climate changes, but also I have read that some 17,000 scientists claim otherwise. So the argument put forth by environmentalists that by changing our behavior and limiting our economic activity by not using natural fuels, we will radically change our climate for the better, is looking weaker by the moment.
