OUR VIEW Our View: Elect Talbert and Moro DailyTidings.com Writer Posted Oct. 15, 2014 @ 12:01 am Posted Oct. 15, 2014 @ 12:01 am » Social News The choices in the two Jackson County commissioner races seem clear-cut to us: Kevin Talbert and Tonia Moro. They will be the leaders who can help Jackson County maintain its solid footing even as others around us falter. Talbert, a retired Southern Oregon University administrator, has focused his campaign efforts on economic development in technology and specialized crops, both of which hold potential for maintaining a lifestyle and an economy that suits the Rogue Valley. He entered this race as an Independent and his common sense approach to issues has earned him support from all corners, from staunch Democrats to staunch Republicans. Some of that support is no doubt a reaction to his opponent in the Position 3 race, Colleen Roberts, who won both the Republican and Democratic primaries when no Democrat entered the race. She is no Democrat, however, but rather a tea partier, complete with misguided references to the U.S. Constitution and rhetoric about taking on the federal government. Her election would move us one step closer to the aforementioned faltering counties of this region. Tonia Moro, a Democrat, has the experience her opponents lack in the Position 1 race. She has been a public defender, served as legal counsel for numerous local cities and has been active in the community, including as a board member for OnTrack. Her Republican opponent, Rick Dyer, seems to be a nice guy and has served on the Rogue Valley Transportation District board, but we find nothing compelling in his candidacy.
