SOU Art Exhibits: The Center for the Visual Arts Galleries on the Southern Oregon University Ashland campus will host exhibits from March 3 through March 18 with an opening reception and refreshments from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 3. Opera: The opera company will present classical composer Christoph Willibald Gluck's timeless love story "Orepheus and Eurydice" at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, March 3-4, and 3 p.m. Sunday, March 6, at Camelot Theatre, 101 Talent Ave., Talent. Willene Gunn will direct and maestro Martin Majkut will conduct this fully staged baroque opera to be performed in English. The cast and orchestra will feature professional singers and musicians. Friday, March 4 Morgenstern Piano Trio: The German trio named for 19th-century poet Christian Morgenstern will perform music by composers Germaine Tailleferre, Pierre Jalbert and Maurice Ravel at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 4, in the Music Recital Hall on the Southern Oregon University campus, 405 S. Mountain Ave., Ashland. At 3 p.m. Saturday, March 5, the trio will perform music by Joseph Haydn, Leonard Berstein and Ernest Chausson. Tickets are $33 or $38; $5 for students and Oregon Trail Card holders. Tickets for Saturday's matinee are $20 for ages 19 through 35. Valid identification will be required. World Day of Prayer: A local World Day of Prayer service is scheduled for Friday, March 4, at Calvin Hall at the First Presbyterian Church, 1615 Clark Ave, Ashland. A ecumenical service begins at 1 p.m. with refreshments and fellowship time to follow. A liturgy written by women of Cuba will be used in gatherings around the globe. The theme, “Receive Children, Receive Me,” is based on the story of Jesus welcoming the children his disciples had turned away.
