Co-op donates to local nonprofits In a move that supports Ashland Food Co-op's progressive agenda, the business recently announced it would donate $16,000 to local nonprofits. On Wednesday, the Co-op will make its donation at the 4th Annual Grant Award Dinner, to be held at Ashland's Windmill Inn. The donation is an extension of the Co-op's Community Grant Program, which was set up in 1989. Under the program, a percentage of the Co-op's profits are set aside to fund local non-profits that help the hungry, clean up and preserve the environment, support educational programs for children, and certain educational programs. At the award dinner, sixteen organizations will receive $1,000 checks including the Ashland High School Health Center, Ashland Emergency Food Bank, ScienceWorks, and the Willow Wind Community Learning Center. The event kicks off at 6 p.m. with an hour scheduled for appetizers and mingling. Dinner, catered by local vegetarian restaurant Pilaf starts at 7 p.m. Additional details can be had by contacting Annie Hoy, Ashland Food Co-op, at 541-482-2237 ext. 234.
