To mark the occasion they took a week long cruise aboard the Queen of the West on the Columbia River. At the culmination of the cruise on July 15 a dinner party was given in their honor at the Portland City Grill in the US Bancorp Tower Portland Oregon. Jake Van Cuilenburg married Miep Legeer in Voorschoten, The Netherlands on July 11th 1946. After taking their vows at City Hall and the Reformed Church in the village, the wedding party and guests traveled by horses and carriages to a large reception with many family and friends at the Haagsche Schouw, a hotel and restaurant operated by William and Hendrikje Legeer, parents of the bride. In 1950 Jake and Miep immigrated to the United States via the Holland American Line oceanliner Westerdam with family members to join family that had settled in the Long Island New York area. Glen Cove, New York became their home until 1984 at which time Jake retired from Grumman Aerospace. They relocated to Ashland, Oregon in October of that year where they joined the Presbyterian Church of Ashland, became immersed in volunteer opportunities and enjoyed the frequent contacts with growing grandchildren. Fond of travel, the retirement years allowed them the time to take many memorable trips to an array of countries around the world. Miep and Jake had two daughters. Kitty Dinse passed away in July 2004. Rita Petrocine and husband Bill reside in Ashland. In addition they have five grandchildren. Kirsten (Mark) Pennington of Seattle, WA; Kyle and Sara Petrocine of Portland, OR; Kaija (Josh) Johnston of Ashburn, VA and Cole Dinse of Fairport, NY.
