Membership has risen from about 2,000 to nearly 7,000 in just five years. Hundreds of families rely on the Y to care for their kids in a positive way that enforces body and mind. On any afternoon, a stroll through the building affirms the agency's success. Everyone from 2-year-olds curled up napping on mattresses, to prancing gymnasts to seniors pumping iron, the Y truly is a positive place for the people of our community. The Y pays no debt on its building, using the membership fees to run its operations. As a result, every dollar of this years' "Campaign for Kids," which ends Friday, goes to those in need. Last year the agency gave away $180,000 in scholarship to the needy people of the area. Next year, with our help, they can do even more. Its a misnomer that only the wealthy live in Ashland. Poverty is high in parts of our city, and the needs of children are too. We each can do our part, and give a little to this year's campaign. If everyone that can does a little, the YMCA will be able to keep on doing a lot.
