--> --> Posted Friday, November 22, 2002 Holiday mission Ashland High School senior Bob Tucker started a community outreach program to gather gifts for the children of Oregon National Guard members. Each year, the Guard in Ashland throws a party for parent-soldiers and their kids, but with Ashland members of the Guard stationed in the Sinai this year, Tucker decided to organize his own party. Tucker (left) displayed more than 100 gift donations - including donated wrapping paper and $725 in cash - at the home of Judy and Bill Cobb in Ashland this week. The donations - the core of Tucker's AHS service project - will be used for a Dec. 14 party for Guard children, and the event will be videotaped and sent to troops abroad. Public Safety ASHLAND POLICE & FIRE Community Notes · LIGHT A LANTERN FOR PEACE - LANTERN WORKSHOPS BRING "LIGHT" TO FESTIVAL OF LIGHT CELEBRATION from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, hosted by the Jewelry Studio at 356 East Main St. Construction includes making a lantern frame, and papering the frame. Time of construction varies from 2 to 4 hours depending upon lantern size and complexity. Cost of the workshop is $5.
