Ashland native finds business home By MYLES MURPHY Ashland Daily Tidings Ashland High School graduate and Southern Oregon University student Sean Culver is turning his longtime love of computer tinkering into a fledgling Ashland business. Sean Culver of Ashland Tech Support changes out defective computer parts at his new office and workshop space on North Main Street. Ashland Daily Tidings/ Myles Murphy Culver, 21, has lived in Ashland since the fifth grade, and hopes he has found a way to put what he has learned in the AHS and SOU educational systems to work. "I love living in Ashland, I love the community, and I saw a need for what I'm doing now," Culver said. Culver is moving into his first office space as Ashland Tech Support, where he will offer computer upgrades, troubleshooting repairs cleaning, consulting and other services for both PC and Macintosh users. While Culver loves to get his hands into the guts of a computer, his real joy comes from teaching others to help themselves in the blossoming computer age. As a freshman at Ashland High School, Culver helped start a series of computer classes for Ashland senior citizens. "I enjoyed working with them and sharing my computer knowledge," Culver said. "I think it's important to educate everyone about technology, especially seniors. They'll get a lot of functionality from computers." That tradition will continue at Ashland Tech Support, where Culver will offer free classes to seniors. The first class will be a hands-on beginners course starting at square-one: How to turn a computer on. The course will be a step-by-step approach to understanding the computer, according to Culver. "Computers are one of my passions," Culver said. "I truly enjoyed my interaction with the seniors when I taught this class before. My goal is to share my information about computers in a way that takes the mystery out of using a computer and brings about a sense of confidence." Depending on the response, classes on Internet use and computer maintenance will follow. "We are open to ideas from the senior community as to what they are interested in beyond the basics," Culver said. Culver is sharing his space with Jacek Zagorski of Shasta NetWorks, which offers custom software development, web design and hosting, and server leasing among other services. "Combined, we offer just about anything anyone would want," Culver said. Culver spent the weekend moving into his new space at 563 North Main Street. He expects to open his doors later this week.
