But we cannot forget the sacrifices made over the course of the improvement project. When the operation began, it was promised that we would find new traffic lights, yet more than a year later, no lights had yet been found. As work continued, we discovered that more orange cones would be needed than anyone had initially thought, and then those cones had their tours of duty extended. Construction is hell. The streets that cross Siskiyou are getting filled in, after six months of bumps and scrapes, and once the stripes are painted, the work will be done. Despite the inconvenience of a project that dragged out far beyond initial estimates, we now have a main drag that's safer, smoother and more attractive. The lights - yes, they did eventually arrive - seem to finally have been timed to allow progress through town, and crosswalks are clearly marked. It's been a long time in coming, but the construction will soon be gone. Putting blankets out on the Fourth of July presumably will be allowed. We can travel downtown again. So long, LTM, can't say its hard to say good-bye.
