Author! 3rd Annual Southern Oregon Book & Author Fair set for Saturday The 3rd annual Southern Oregon Book & Author Fair will take place in Ashland on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The featured author at this year’s event is multi-award winner, Jane Kirkpatrick. She joins over 80 authors who will be on hand in the Rogue River Room of SOU’s Stevenson Union, where the general public is invited to meet the authors, purchase books, and have their holiday gift purchases autographed. The fair provides a venue where regional authors may promote their work directly to the public. Many genres of both fiction and non-fiction will be represented, including western, mystery, history, Native American, romance, poetry, spirituality, children’s, and others. Jane Kirkpatrick is the best-selling author of two nonfiction books and eleven historical novels. Her commitment to research and her love for the West allow her to paint a convincing portrait of the Old West. Kirkpatrick’s books reveal the timeless themes of courage, hardiness, faith, commitment, hope and love. Her novel A Sweetness to the Soul won the Wrangler Award from the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, an award earned previously by Louis L’Amour, Larry McMurtry and James Michener. Kirkpatrick is a Wisconsin native who holds an advanced degree in clinical social work and is a mental health and educational consultant. For 17 years she worked with the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs in central Oregon. Her book Homestead is her memoir of leaving suburbia with her husband and moving to 160 acres of “rattlesnakes and rock” in a remote part of eastern Oregon known as Starvation Point.
