SOU hosts education conference Southern Oregon University will host the Possibilities in Education conference May 16-17, organized by Masters in Arts in Teaching students. The conference, in the Rogue River Room of the Stevenson Union, is an opportunity for educators to come together to share how they are stepping out of the traditional system and reinventing effective teaching that meets the needs of today's students. It will feature more than 20 sessions over two days. The conference is open to teachers, pre-service teachers, parents, administrators and students who are interested in learning more about the possibilities that exist in education. This year's keynote speakers include Talent Middle School principal Patty Kinney, who was recently named the MetLife/NASSP Middle Level Principal of the Year; Elaine Meeks, principal of Montana's 2002 Title 1 Distinguished School; and Andreas Horaites, a teacher from the Southern Oregon Education Service District Migrant Education/English as a Second Language program. The conference will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday in the Rogue River Room of the Stevenson Union. Lunch will be provided on Saturday.
