Paul was born in Simi Valley, California on January 12, 1968 to Arthur and Margaret (Kelly) Gibson. When his family moved to Southern Oregon in the mid 1970's Paul attended Talent Elementary and Middle Schools. He graduated from Phoenix High in 1986, having been a 2-time District Wrestling Champion and finishing 4th at the 1986 AA State Wrestling Championships. He was also a 2 year starter and All-Conference selection on Offense and Defense in Football, and was one of the leaders on the 1985 State AA Championship team. Paul began his working life at ACCESS weatherizing the homes of underprivileged members of our community. While an apprentice carpenter Paul worked on the restoration of the Crater Lake Lodge, and as a Journeyman and member of the Carpenters Union he worked on large projects in Oregon before becoming a foreman on construction projects in Las Vegas. Paul was a lifelong learner, dedicated to improving himself both professionally and academically. As such he returned to school; first to Rogue Community College, where he earned an Associate of Arts degree in 2006. He graduated with a Degree in Social Service from Southern Oregon University in 2011. After graduation Paul served an internship at WinterSpring and upon its completion was asked to join the staff. Paul was a passionate person who had a deep love of family, faith, and music. Few things pleased Paul more than sitting at his drum kit playing music with his family. Coaching was also a passion; he began volunteering and assisting with the Phoenix/Talent Athletics Department in 2002. Since 2011 he had been assistant coach in both football and wrestling at Talent Middle School. This past season was his first year as head coach of the 7th grade football team, an assignment that filled him with pride. He was also an active community service volunteer. Paul excelled as a Grief Counselor for middle and high school students through his work with WinterSpring and he was creating a non profit, at the time of his passing, intent on bringing that passion to school districts in Las Vegas, having relocated there in October 2015. Paul is survived by his daughter, Megan and son, Benjamin; as well as his mother, Margaret; his sister, Bronagh; and brothers Gerard, John, Arthur, Patrick, Philip, Michael and Diarmuid; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Paul is also survived by a wealth of aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws in Ireland with whom he had the great pleasure of bonding with while on a journey there not long ago. Paul is preceded in death by his father, Arthur Joseph Gibson; his brother Joseph Patrick; and his sister, Ann Margaret. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to WinterSpring, ACCESS, or to a charity of your choice. The funeral directors are Litwiller-Simonsen. The funeral services will be held at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, 987 Hillview Dr. Ashland, OR on Monday December 21 at 10:00am with the interment following at Mountain View Cemetery, 440 Normal Ave. (off Hwy 99/Ashland St.) in Ashland. A reception will follow the interment at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church Hall at approximately noon.
