The organization reports collected an estimated 500 pounds of garbage that filled a small dump truck twice. Included in the collected garbage were propane tanks, several two-burner propane stoves, tents, sleeping bags, four bicycle frames, an estimated 100 1-gallon plastic water containers, bottles, a car gas tank, a full car exhaust system and random garbage. Ashland Woodland and Trails Association organized the effort, which included hikers, runners, cyclists and a teen working to get his cellphone privileges back. The encampment site was at the intersection of the proposed Gryphon and Red Queen trails. The Ashland Police Department assisted in the effort by checking out the site for dangerous materials and leaving a notice that any campers need to leave the site and Ashland Fire and Rescue provided a dump truck and a driver to haul garbage and debris.
