For the more than 10 years we have known him, he has been active in making Ashland a better place for us all. His involvement in political affairs, his volunteer political efforts, his active support of the arts, and his many years of service in government make him an outstanding candidate. On the basis of our many conversations with him we know that he is a richly informed, energetic, and highly motivated person, always willing to consider others' viewpoints but always asking tough questions and advocating principled and economically sound policies and programs. Ashland would be well served by the election of this experienced and honorable man. Ragan and Gerald Cavanaugh Ashland Appalled by JPR/NPR combo I am absolutely appalled at Jefferson Public Radio and their continual broadcasting of NPR (National Propaganda Radio or National Pentagon Radio) to the citizens of Ashland and surrounding communities. NPR is the most lying, most conniving, pro-corporate, pro-military police state propaganda in existence in America. This type of brainwashed news and information programming has absolutely no place in Ashland or at the so-called liberated university of SOU. Major re-balancing must needs be accomplished here. I urge the entire SOU academic community to rise up and throw out (by force if necessary) the people currently in charge of JPR news programming. These people are maliciously forcing this lying propaganda down our throats and must be stopped. Further, alternatives are in desperate need of being established. Here are some alternative news sources that are heard by millions across the USA: 1. Free Speech Radio News http://www.fsrn.org 2. Pacifica National News http://www.pacifica.org 3. Democracy Now http://www.democracynow.org Ashland deserves better than corporate right military propaganda pumped into their brains. Time to evolve Ashland. Albert Kweada Ashland Hardesty is ready for job I just got home from walking door to door for Jack Hardesty for City Council. I am impressed by the wide range of supporters for Jack. Jack and his energetic wife Alice (a member of the Housing Commission) are running a positive, progressive campaign that attracts people who are concerned about the effects of recent developments on our quality of life. People are ready for a change on the city council. Jack is the kind of guy who does his homework, listens to the ideas of others and has the wisdom and patience to encourage an open and democratic process. It's time we elected someone like Jack Hardesty. He'll work hard to protect the small town we love.
