She was able to stay in her home until the end with her full-time caregivers, her only child, Larry Chapman and daughter-in-law, Liz. Lucille was married to William Chapman for 58 years; he passed in 2000. In order to be close to her only grandchildren, Lucille and William moved to Ashland at the birth of their granddaughter Alicia in 1978. Michelle was born two years later. Family was the center of Lucille’s life and she greatly appreciated the time with Alicia and Michelle when they lived right next door to them for four years until the younger Chapman family moved to Seattle. Lucille’s early years were on Long Island in a family of eight children (born in Farmingdale, New York). The family lived first on a farm and then ran a fishing boat rental business. Product of the Depression Lucille and William prided themselves on being frugal but were always generous and had what they needed for a nice, comfortable life. Lucille is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Emily 17, Ashley 15, Isaiah 13, and Tori 11; and her sister, Lorraine Vervalin. It was a team effort to assist Lucille to stay in her home. When Lucille stopped driving in 2003, Larry made once-monthly trips for shopping and moral support. Great friends, Dick Moore and Sheila Whitesitt of Medford provided local support trips and visitations as needed. Thank you to Dr. Christlieb whom Lucille was always glad to see. A special thank you to Ashland Home Health who greatly brightened the caregivers' lives with helpful advice.
