Siporen joins Talent council; Planner Cronin is resigning Staff reports TALENT - A former Tidings news editor and Mail Tribune reporter has been appointed to the City Council. Wendy Siporen was the only applicant for the position vacated by Councilor Doug Turner. The term expires in December 2004. "I don't bring a specific agenda," Siporen said. "I see it as community service, and obviously I've been interested in city government for many years. I think I have a little less steep of a learning curve, but I always look forward to learning more things." Growth pressures, a civic center master plan and parks development are key issues for the city, she said. Siporen has lived in Talent for three months. She has resided in the Rogue Valley since 1979. Siporen is a management consultant with Southern Oregon Economic Development. She was a Mail Tribune reporter from 1998 to 2000, prior to that, she served as the Tidings' news editor from 1995 to 1997. She has a master's degree in management from Southern Oregon University. In other business, the council learned of the resignation, effective June 27, of city planner Kevin Cronin. "The next three months will provide ample time to find a qualified person and to finish some outstanding projects before my departure," Cronin wrote to City Administrator Betty Wheeler.
