The funding still must be approved by the House, Senate and governor. The funding includes $2 million in state bonds for renovation of McNeal Hall, which previously received approval for nearly $22 million in state funding. The new bonds will cover increases in the cost of construction since the project was first approved, the release said. Debt service on the funding will be paid by the state. The committee also approved the sale of $1.5 million in bonds to help fund construction of a new facility for Jefferson Public Radio. Still in the design phase, the JPR project is being constructed as an addition to the SOU Theater Building. Groundbreaking is expected to occur this summer, with completion scheduled for the middle of 2017, the release said. The $3.5 million was approved by Ways and Means last Thursday, spokesman Ryan Brown said.
