OUR VIEW Our View: Voters chose wisely in council elections DailyTidings.com Writer Posted Nov. 7, 2014 @ 12:01 am Posted Nov. 7, 2014 @ 12:01 am » Social News Ashland voters showed wisdom and practicality Tuesday in electing two experienced community leaders to City Council positions.  Pam Marsh has served on the council since she was appointed in December 2012 to fill a vacancy. She has been a thoughtful presence on the council, and says her two years in office prepared her to be more effective in her first full term. Voters clearly thought so, too, with 90 percent of them choosing her over an inexperienced challenger. Steffani Seffinger, chairwoman of the Parks and Recreation Commission, will complete her term on that body before joining the council in January. She says she will continue to be an advocate for city parks and the environment as a councilor, but not to the exclusion of other city operations. Like Marsh, Seffinger soundly defeated her opponent, Biome Michael Erickson, also garnering 90 percent of votes cast. Returning to the council for another term will be Councilor Michael Morris, who ran  unopposed. The council has adopted goals for the next six years, and has chosen to focus on five priorities in the next budget cycle, including protecting the Ashland Watershed, strengthening the Ashland Fiber Network and extending help to the city's needy residents. Marsh worked on the goals, and Seffinger supports them. After a period of some turmoil on the council in recent years, the current council appears to be functioning smoothly and looking to the future.
