Mah Jongg: Experienced and beginner adults 50 and older are invited to play Mah Jongg, a tile game of Chinese origin, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Ashland Senior Center, 1699 Homes Ave., Ashland. NPSO Program: The Siskiyou Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Oregon will hold a free program celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Southern Oregon University Cascade Science Building, Room 114. Guest speaker Bridget Callahan will highlight botanicals of the Kalmiopsis Wilderness, and current campaigns to expand wilderness protections in Oregon. The event is free. Call 541-941-3744.   Friday, Jan. 16 Ashland Rotary Centennial Ice Rink: Enjoy ice skating daily at the ice rink, located across from Ashland's Lithia Park at 95 Winburn Way. Skate rentals cost $2.50 per pair. Rink admission costs $4 for adults, $3.50 for children ages 5 to 13 and free for kids younger than 5. Rogue Valley Symphony: The symphony, conducted by Martin Majkut, will present Russian composer Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade," American composer John Adams' "The Chairman Dances" from his opera "Nixon in China," and pianist Jeffrey Biegel, who will play solo Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto. Concerts will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, in the Music Recital Hall on the Southern Oregon University campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland; 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford; and 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at the Grants Pass Performing Arts Center, 830 N.E. Ninth St., Grants Pass. Majkut will present talks one hour before each performance. Tickets cost $33, $38, $44 or $50 for the Ashland show; $28, $33, $38 or $44 for the Medford show; and $20, $28 or $34 for the Grants Pass show. Student tickets cost $5 at all shows. Yuval Ron Trio: Oud player Yuval Ron, singer Maya Haddi and percussionist David Reihs will present Jewish, Christian and Sufi sacred music of the Middle East at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at the Unitarian Fellowship, 87 Fourth St., Ashland. The trio will be joined by local musicians Asha Slater and Jim Von Stein and belly dancer Zahara Solomon. Tickets cost $25 in advance and can be purchased online at stclairevents.com, at Music Coop, 268 E. Main St., or by calling 541-535-3562. Tickets will cost $28 at the door, $10 for ages 12 through 17. Kids 11 and younger get in free.  Orbison Spotlight Opening: Camelot Theatre's production of "Spotlight on Roy Orbison" will open at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at 101 Talent Ave., Talent. The performance, directed by Presila Quinby, will include vocals and rhythm guitar by Erik Connolly, and backup vocals and narration by Marlena Gray and Kathleen Marrs. Arrangements will include "Oh, Pretty Woman," "Crying," "Only the Lonely" and "It's Over." Tickets cost $24, or $26 for reserved seating. Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through Jan. 23. Topics will include how to fill out and use an ancestor chart, how to find information at home, how to use a family group sheet, types of documentation, and simple ways to organize information.
