Letters: After Bush has acted, what can be done as a fix? What if the President of the United States lied to the American people in order to rally them to go to war in Iraq? What if about twenty percent ofthe American people were very zealous in their religious beliefs, and these people believed the president and stood behind him even though there was a strong possibility that he had not been honest in leading his country into war? What if there was a growing group of citizens who did not accept the reasoning for all of the fear and all of the money being spent to send our soldiers to fight? What if the prayers of the people were strengthened by a light of truth and understanding that helped them to pray for the good of all people, including the president? Would the people impeach the president, and would it do any good if they did? Randy Bofinger, Mt Shasta, Calif. Lone fliers cause disturbances at Ashland airport As a resident who shares the same end of town as the airport, my feelings about it are more ambivalent than yours. Yes, I knew the airport was there before I bought my home. Yes, most of the time the noise is slight and mostly heard as background noise. It is the cowboy flier who drops too low over residential areas, the tourist pilot who wants to show his guests the "quaint" town, and the dolt who hasn't tuned his prop(s) who create a nuisance. Being a small community, it wouldn't surprise me if laxity is shown about excessive noise and risky flying behavior just to have the $2+ million flow into the city's coffer. Thomas Walters, Ashland Plaza would be enhanced by a lovely fountain How dearly we enjoy the beautiful fountain that dances on the lawn in front of Briscoe Elementary School. That fountain is so lovely, like it materialized even prettier from the old R. Atkinson Fox "Spirit of Youth" calendar print of the 1920s, elegant and gracious yet spritely and exuberant, gaily tossing sparkles about and fairly singing like the Nowitskys. Just seeing that fountain imparts a joyful humor as we go into town! Perhaps it's like a living memorial. All eternity glimpsed in a fountain of happy laughter. That'd be awesome to have such a pretty and inspiring fountain like that in the Plaza, replacing the killer statue above the drinking fountains, too. I think everyone, children and adults alike, would enjoy looking at a beautiful fountain. One like the fountain in front of Briscoe Elementary School, that speaks highly of our town.
