Skate rentals are just 50 cents during Cheap Skates from 6:30 to 9 p.m. every Monday and Tuesday. Opening of the rink was postponed from the planned start on Monday due to warm days, according to Lonny Flora, recreation coordinator for the city of Ashland Parks and Recreation Department. Even though nights were cold, the warm days meant “we just kept losing a lot of ice,” he said. A portion of the ice remains closed off Tuesday evening as workers tried to build up the thickness on one end, workers are due back at the rink at 4 a.m. Wednesday to try and build up the ice. ORIGINAL STORY: Opening of the Ashland Rotary Centennial Ice Rink season has been pushed back. The rink was set to open Monday, but the opening was canceled due to what a recording at the ice rink phone number termed “poor ice conditions.” Ice hockey play on Tuesday morning was also canceled. There was no immediate word on Tuesday afternoon as to a revised time for when the rink at 95 Winburn Way will open. A grand opening “First Frost” celebration planned for Saturday, Nov. 22, has been rescheduled for Saturday, Dec. 20, according to the Ashland Parks and Recreation Department website.
