The 10th-ranked Southern Oregon women and 21st-ranked Southern Oregon men both received at-large bids Wednesday. The women (26-4) will play No. 21 Robert Morris (21-6) in the first round at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday in Sioux City, Iowa, while the SOU men (24-9) will face 11th-ranked Midland (26-7) in the first round at 11:45 a.m. March 12 in Point Lookout, Mo. Both tournaments are single-elimination, 32-team affairs that will run Wednesday through March 17, and both championship games will be televised live on ESPN3. The Raider women, who were knocked out by Oregon Tech in the Cascade Conference semifinals, dropped two spots in the final top 25 poll and received the second of nine at-large invitations. The Raiders are seeded third in their quarter of the bracket, which also includes No. 2 Davenport (31-0), the only undefeated team in the nation, and No. 7 Marian (28-5). Robert Morris of Illinois is seeded sixth and will be making its first national tournament appearance. The Eagles, who snared the last at-large bid, finished third with a record of 14-4 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, which was won by fourth-ranked Saint Xavier. Robert Morris is led by senior forward Yolanda De La Torre, who averages 10.8 rebounds and 2.9 blocks. The Eagles boast one of the top defenses in the nation. They rank third in the country in steals per game (15.3) and 10th in opponents’ field-goal percentage (33.9). The SOU-Robert Morris winner will face either Marian or unranked Tabor. Southern Oregon, which had won nine straight before the semifinal shocker Friday, will be gunning for its first national tournament win since 1999, a 16-year gap that includes four first-round losses. The Raiders will be one of three Cascade Conference teams in Sioux City. No. 16 Eastern Oregon will face No. 17 Oklahoma Wesleyan in the first round and unranked Oregon Tech drew No. 4 Saint Xavier. The Southern Oregon men’s team, which will be making its second national tourney appearance in three years, jumped two spots in the final top 25 poll and received the fifth of nine at-large bids. The Raiders were not seeded — only 16 teams are seeded in the men’s tourney — and are in the same quarter of the bracket as No. 2 Embry-Riddle (32-1) and No. 7 Bellevue. The SOU-Midland winner will play either Bellevue or No. 24 Grace in the second round March 13. Midland (Neb.), last year’s national runner-up, shocked then-No. 3 Dakota Wesleyan and then-No. 5 Morningside last week to win the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament. The Warriors destroyed Morningside 89-67, with Marcus Franklin and Alex Starkel combining to score 45 points and go 21-for-26 from the field. The Warriors are deadly from outside and take care of the ball. They lead the nation in 3-point percentage (41.3) and rank fourth in turnover margin (4.3). The Raiders, who have five wins against ranked opponents, advanced to the second round in Point Lookout two years ago and will be making their fourth tournament appearance since 1999 under head coach Brian McDermott. They are one of four teams from the CCC to qualify for nationals — No. 4 College of Idaho will open against Dakota State, No. 14 Concordia will face No. 19 Indiana East and No. 16 Warner Pacific will take on No. 17 Olivet Nazarene.
