Also on a busy Friday at Raider Stadium, during the Raiders Invitational, SOU's Jessa Perkinson set a school record in the 5,000-meter run, finishing in 17 minutes, 12.31 seconds to place first. Seth Gretz of Oregon Tech ended up holding off Dotson to win the decathlon with 6,541 points to Doton’s 6,408, while Tiana Thomas of College of Idaho won the heptathlon with 4,596 points. Dotson bested Gretz in three of five events Friday but couldn’t make up Gretz’s 87-point lead heading into the final day, especially after Gretz won the 110 hurdles to rack up 834 points. Dotson picked up steam down the stretch, placing third in the javelin with a 154-foot, 8-inch throw before winning the 1,500 in 4:39.91. Corban’s Jason Bracken led with 3,496 points after the first five events were held Thursday, but he ended up third with 6,360. In the Raiders Invite men's 5K, SOU's Jared Hixon won in 14.44.56 to automatically qualify for the NAIA championships, and Dylan Alexander finished second in 14:77.68. Southern Oregon's Eli Stillman won the 3,000 steeplechase in 9:50.87. SOU's Sydney Norvell, and Ashland High School graduate, placed third in the pole vault (9-5 ¾). College Softball At Surrey, B.C., Kelsey Randall had four of Southern Oregon’s 21 hits in the Game 1 blowout and Victoria Mackey tossed a shutout in Game 2 as the Raiders swept British Columbia on Friday to inch closer to a Cascade Conference West title. Randall, Southern Oregon’s leadoff hitter, was 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs, a stolen base and an RBI to lead the Raiders to a 16-1, five-inning victory in the first game. In the second, Mackey surrendered six hits in seven innings to guide SOU to a 3-0 win and a critical sweep. The wins improved the Raiders to 32-14 overall and 18-8 in the Cascade Conference. They can clinch the CCC West championship by sweeping Northwest today. British Columbia fell to 11-24 and 9-17. In the first game, three Raiders had three hits or more and three more had two hits, as the Raiders erupted for seven runs in the second inning to take a 9-0 lead. SOU first baseman Rebecca Velasquez went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, Kayleen Smith was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs and Alexa Gonzalez went 2-for-2 with an RBI and scored three times. Sydney White pitched the first four innings, holding British Columbia scoreless on three hits, to pick up the win. She improved to 13-7. In the second game, SOU’s Amelia Hensler scored on a throwing error in the second to give the Raiders the early lead. The Raiders added some insurance on Smith’s two-run single in the fifth.
