'INCIDENT AT OGLALA' Leonard Peltier's son to speak in Ashland Supporters of clemency for longtime prisoner host event June 3 at SOU Comment By Local report DailyTidings.com By Local report Posted May. 24, 2016 at 8:44 PM By Local report Posted May. 24, 2016 at 8:44 PM » Social News Backers of freedom for longtime prisoner Leonard Peltier host an evening with speakers, food and showing of a documentary film starting at 6 p.m. Friday, June 3, in Southern Oregon University Hannon Library Meese Room (No. 305). The speakers are Chauncey Peltier of Portland, Leonard Peltier’s eldest son; and Ed Little Crow of Ashland, a Lakota, Dakota member of the Elders Council in Southern Oregon, veteran of the siege of Wounded Knee in 1973 and author. Leonard Peltier has been in federal prison for 40 years in connection with a 1975 shootout at the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota where two FBI agents were killed. Among those calling for his release are Amnesty International, the late Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama. Clemency from President Barack Obama may be his last chance to return home. After the speakers, the documentary "Incident at Oglala” (1992, 89 minutes) about the events leading to Leonard Peltier’s imprisonment will be shown. This drug- and alchohol-free event is free and open to the public. Food and beverages will be provided, though potluck items are appreciated, organizers say. Call 541-631-8730 for more information.
