Interpretive signs point way to hike MEDFORD - Adults and children can enjoy guided hikes and educational activities on Saturday morning in celebration of eight new interpretive signs along Lower Table Rock Trail. The signs were made possible through a partnership between the Bureau of Land Management's Butte Falls Resource Area, The Nature Conservancy and Eastman Kodak Company. Covering a range of topics including wildflowers, vernal pools, geology, Native American and post-settler history and fire ecology, the colorful signs will be unveiled at 10 a.m., with activities and hikes to follow. The sign project was conceived two years ago by the BLM and The Nature Conservancy, and was made possible thanks to a $10,000 donation from the Eastman Kodak Company. "I'm glad that we can partner with The Nature Conservancy and Kodak to make this a reality," said Lance Nimmo, Butte Falls Resource Area manager. "It is only through cooperation with other groups that we can make this happen." Kodak employees regularly hike the Lower Table Rock Trail and have helped restore the area. More than 3,000 students participate in a spring environmental education program provided by the BLM at the Table Rocks. The BLM and The Nature Conservancy also offer guided weekend hikes beginning Sunday and continuing through May 18. Call the BLM at 618-2200 to sign up for the hikes. To reach the Lower Table Rock Trail from Ashland for Saturday's event, take the north I-5 Medford exit and go north on Biddle Road, which becomes Airport Road. Turn right at Table Rock Road and then left on Wheeler Road. Follow the signs to the trailhead and parking area.
