Oregon's Constitution is in extreme danger The Oregon Constitution is in danger. The Mannix measures (otherwise, Mannix's mania), numbers 69 to 75 on the ballot being distributed for the November election, would incorporate in the Constitution additional power for the prison-jail-police apparatus, state and local, in Oregon. We have already gone a long way in Oregon toward substituting punishment and law enforcement (as it's called) for education, public health, and help for those in need. Under the false heading of "crime victims' rights," these measures would add to the power of public prosecutors and their police and judicial allies. Vote no on measures 69 to 75; by doing that, reject the idea that the Constitution be allowed to become the vehicle for partisan, special-interest legislation.
