Ashland Calendar, Thursday, Oct. 27 Wednesday Oct 26, 2016 at 11:01 PM Thursday, Oct. 27 Musica Matrix: Hear Ensemble Fontegara playing 16th-century music on a matched consort of Renaissance recorders, the Gothic Voices Medieval Choir, lutenist James Edwards and flamenco guitarist Grant Ruiz from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, in the conservatory and English gardens at Ashland Springs Hotel, 212 E. Main St., Ashland. The concert is a fundraiser for Southern Oregon's newest nonprofit, Musica Matrix, committed to bringing music from Shakespeare's time to wider and more diverse audiences. A one-mile fun run/walk is at 10:30 a.m., followed by 5K and 10K races at 11:15 a.m. Top male and female winners receive cash prizes. Age group winners receive gift card prizes and all youth receive finishers' medals. All races are chip timed and costumes are encouraged. Music Director Dan Kocurek will diabolically lead the ensemble in a spine-chilling array of concert works perfectly suited to the spirit of Halloween. Music includes "Night on Bald Mountain," "Come Sweet Death," "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," "Death and Transfiguration," a "Nightmare Before Christmas" and selections from "Carmina Burana."
