We invite you to shop local and celebrate the holidays in Ashland. Each year the Ashland Chamber & VCB light and decorate the town through generous support of our sponsors and partnership with the city of Ashland. From the historic, refurbished red lanterns on East Main Street and the winter banners on Lithia Way, to the snowflakes on Ashland Street and the wreaths and bows that adorn downtown, these decorations are made possible by the Ashland Chamber with support from sponsorship from the private and public sector. The Festival of Light starts at 1 p.m. with holiday entertainment on the Plaza stage and continues through the afternoon. Santa’s parade begins at 5 p.m. at the Ashland Public Library and makes its way to the Plaza for the "Grand Illumination" with Santa lighting over 1 million lights with thousands in attendance. Kids can visit Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Black Swan Theatre at the corner of East Main and Pioneer from 6:15 to 8 p.m. You can create memories and start your own tradition at the Festival of Light. Saturday is Shop Local for Small Business Day. The Ashland Chamber of Commerce encourages you to support independently owned businesses for the holidays. We invite you to enjoy Ashland the day after the Festival of Light, on Saturday Nov. 29, for your Small Business Saturday shopping experience. Small businesses make Ashland thrive. With the 2014 official designation for Ashland as a Neighborhood Champion, here are the top 5 reasons to shop local and what makes Ashland unique — small businesses: • Make up the fabric of the Ashland community; • Donate to their local communities’ nonprofit organizations; • Collectively are the largest employers nationally and in Ashland; • Aren’t dedicated to a national supply chain. They listen to their customers; and • When you shop local and support a small business, more money from your purchase stays local. New this year are free Ashland holiday coupon books.
