Farr More Content Now Posted Mar. 5, 2015 at 9:04 AM » Social News Sometimes, she can be pop perfection. Other times, she’s a rock star. She can sing the blues with the best of them, too. She has heart, soul, an edge, and she’s even topped the country music charts. Who am I talking about? If you were to put all these genres together piece by piece, you would see they make up the talented and cool Kelly Clarkson. Forget all the glitz, glam, and manufactured shenanigans, Clarkson is the real deal. And man, can she sing! Clarkson’s latest album, “Piece By Piece,” is a reflection of where she is in her career, motherhood, and in life. It’s the perfect record for her now. “Piece By Piece” is her sixth studio album release and incorporates many of the talented pieces that Clarkson has shared with all of you since winning “American Idol” 13 years ago. The new music is rock and pop with an electro-pop feel. Her previous album was an incredibly successful holiday-themed record, but it has been three years since we’ve heard anything new from Clarkson. In that three years, Clarkson got married and became a mom to two pre-teen children, as well as having a baby girl of her own, River Rose. Her music has always been autobiographical, for the most part, and that’s why she’s so good at what she does. Her life experiences makes her music more identifiable. The album’s first single is the catchy “Heartbeat Song.” It’s a fun, anthemic song in the spirit of Kelly. But you can also sense a more mature sound in her voice — maybe it’s the mom in her coming out. Whatever it is, I like it. “Piece By Piece” features 16 tracks in its deluxe version, many of which Clarkson either wrote or co-wrote including “Nostalgic,” “”Tightrope,” “Second Wind,” “War Paint” and the Sia-sounding “Take You High.” Clarkson also enlisted the writing talent of Sia for the track “Invincible.” For months, Clarkson teased that the new album would contain another duet, but she wouldn’t provide details. Her prior duets’ charts success have all been with country music artists: “Don’t You Wanna Stay” (Jason Aldean), “Don’t Rush” (Vince Gill) and a countrified version on her hit “Because Of You” (Reba McEntire). This time she chose the incomparable R&B crooner John Legend to team with her on “Run Run Run.” The song is a sexy, beautiful ballad and right up the alley for Legend, who dominated the Hot 100 last year with his hit “All Of Me.” The two complement each other beautifully, proving once again Kelly can do anything. “Piece By Piece” is another stellar album from the woman who has stretched a moment like that (winning “Idol”) into a career like this.
