The fair also include live music, artisan food vendors and food trucks. The Southern Oregon Grape Fair is from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 5, in downtown Talent on Market Street. The Great Southern Oregon Paint Out has events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and offers cash awards for art winners. Immortal Spirits & Distilling Company will offer its single malt small batch whiskey, while The Rogue Growler will provide beer for the street fair. More than a dozen local wineries, vineyards and cellars will have a wide variety of wine. Admission to the fair with tastings is $20 and includes a wine glass, eight beverage tastings, food samples and access to a vendor fair and dance area with a stage for live music all day. Entry to the fair without tastings is $10 for people age 12 and over. Kids under 12 get in free. "We'll have 17 alcohol vendors with spirits, wine and beer. There will be lots to choose from," says Gretchen Hartrick, a co-organizer of the fair and president of the Talent Chamber of Commerce. "There will be artisan food vendors, food trucks and a fantastic music lineup." The Brothers Reed perform folk music at 12:15 p.m., and TC and The Reactions play rhythm and blues at 1:30 p.m. Guitarist and singer Bret Levick will team with LOVEBITE for a blend of rock, rhythm and blues and other musical genres at 2:45 p.m. Cornflower takes to the stage with modern soul music at 4 p.m., and LOVEBITE returns at 4:45 p.m. with special guests. Before the fair, Andy Phillips, Liza Jussiaume and Lisa Manyon will judge wine entries in a range of white and red categories. "We'll announce the winners early in the day at the fair so everyone will know who won and they can taste that wine," Hartrick says. At the fair, Ashland Wine Cellar will host a People's Choice competition for fair-goers to vote for their favorite wines. Those winners will be announced later in the day. To reduce waste, fair participants are urged to bring their own refillable water bottles and reusable bags for carrying any purchases. Bacchus Wine Tours and Butler Auto Group will offer transportation to anyone who wants a ride after the event. For art-lovers, the Great Southern Oregon Paint Out invites artists to leave their houses and studios behind and try painting outdoors on Saturday, Sunday or both days. The participation fee is $25 for one day or $40 for both days. An artists' social event is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kindred Spirits Art, Ales & Wine, located at 106 Talent Ave. Registration is available at the social. Participating artists paint from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Paschal Winery and Vineyards, 1122 Suncrest Road, and/or from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday in downtown Talent or in the surrounding countryside. People can register at the painting events. Rick Evans, president of the Artists' Workshop group that organized the Paint Out, says when painting outdoors, people typically create landscapes or hone in on details, such as a flower or grape leaves. "Don't be intimidated," he advises artists who are new to painting outdoors. "There's a lot to see out there. Don't be overwhelmed by the larger picture. It does take time to narrow your focus and pick a subject. That's the biggest fear that people have about painting out-of-doors." On Saturday at Paschal Winery, internationally recognized painter Gabriel Lipper will do an outdoor painting demonstration from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. "People can come out and watch him in action," Evans says. Lipper will also be the judge of an art competition of pieces completed during the Great Southern Oregon Paint Out. Cash awards are $500 for first place, $250 for second place, $125 for third place and $100 for a People's Choice winner. Artists should bring a lunch to Paschal on Saturday. Food is available from vendors at the Southern Oregon Grape Fair for people painting in downtown Talent on Sunday. The public is invited to watch artists at work at Paschal or downtown.
