She was born in Kansas City, Mo. November 13, 1930. Having moved many times, she settled later in life in Ashland, Ore. and Kailua, Oahu. She married Captain John Abbott in 1959. Living the Navy life there were many moves during this time period. He passed away during the Vietnam War as a decorated fighter pilot. In 2004 she married the late Chuck Staley, also a Navy pilot. She treasured both of her "Top Guns." She had a love of needlepointing, owning the store The Stitch Witches in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. She loved to volunteer and was active at Ashland Community Hospital and the public library in whichever town she was living. She never met an animal she didn't love. And finally, she loved to travel visiting 100 countries. She is survived by her son, John Abbott and daughter in-law, Joan Schreiner Abbott of Chico, Calif.; brother, Vaughn DeLozier of Warrensburg, Mo., and sister in-law, Demmaree Carns of Belton, Mo.; stepson, Keller Staley and wife, Mary of Bethesda, Md.; stepdaughters, Melissa Pederson of Dublin, Calif., and Ann Bracket of Eureka, Calif.; calabash daughter, Beth Oehler of Ashland, Ore. and five grandchildren. A memorial will be held Saturday October 25, 2014. Contact Perl Funeral Home for details, 541-772-5488.
