--> --> Lawyer tries to suppress confession MEDFORD (AP) - A lawyer for a 47-year-old woman to go on trial for allegedly murdering her husband with an ax tried to suppress the woman's confession, saying it was coerced. Dawn Roble-Baker of Medford was arrested in April 2000 and confessed to the murder of her husband, Jack Dee Baker, 45, according to court documents. In Jackson County Circuit Court on Monday, Roble-Baker's lawyer, David Orf, said his client was "unconstitutionally seized" from work, held without being read her rights and was pressured to confess. "The facts of this case mandate suppression of the statement," Orf said. Roble-Baker said she felt that detectives wouldn't let her leave or see her 10-year-old son. "Basically, they were holding (my son) as a hostage," Roble-Baker said. "I could see my son if I confessed." Deputy District Attorney Allan Smith called her claim "ludicrous" and said detectives had testified that she was free to go at any time during the interview until after she had confessed.
