Alicia was born to the late Moray Lindsay Applegate and Maria Pastora Applegate, September 20, 1916, in Los Angeles, CA. Alicia graduated from Ashland High School in 1935 and received her teaching degree from Southern Oregon College in 1937. After teaching school for two years in Butte Falls, Oregon, she was married to the late Robert V. Hardy in June of 1939. The Hardys built their life together in southern Oregon where they raised two sons. Alicia continued to reside in Ashland for several years after Robert's death, which came in January of 2006. She then moved to the Sacramento area to be closer to her family. Alicia was a talented homemaker who enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, world travel, and entertaining. Her interests were varied and many. She was known for her green thumb and was forever giving away plant starts to her many good friends. She was a fine cook and often found her favorite ingredients by stalking the wild asparagus, combing the woods for morel mushrooms, or personally landing a large salmon. Nothing made her happier than to find an apple tree or berry patch along the roadside; cobblers and pies were sure to follow. In retirement, Robert and Alicia traveled the world together, enjoying the pleasures that visiting six out of seven continents can bring. Alicia loved seeing new places and Robert loved showing them to her. Alicia is survived by her two sons, Robert Hardy Jr., of Rio Vista, CA., and William Hardy (and his wife Kathleen) of El Dorado Hills, CA. She is also survived by her two grandsons, Lindsay and Joel Hardy, and her two great-grandsons, Benjamin and Hudson Hardy. This grand lady will be missed. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. April 11, 2015 at Green Valley Mortuary in Rescue, CA.
