The department submitted the "You Have Options" program to the International Association of Chiefs of Police — a professional organization for law enforcement — in late spring to be considered for the Webber Seavey Award for quality in law enforcement.  "The program takes a victim-centered approach to sexual assault reporting," says Deputy Chief Corey Falls. "We work on their time with the reporting method that they choose." Victims reporting through "You Have Options" can submit anonymously and can provide information only, have a partial investigation conducted or have a complete investigation.  Detective Carrie Hull started work on the program in 2010 and it became a pilot project for the state in 2013. The program is gaining national attention and Hull, along with Chief Terry Holderness, will hold an education session about it during the IACP Conference in October.  The Webber Seavey award, named after IACP's first president, is presented annually to agencies and departments worldwide. The award honors achievements in continually improving services in the community, strengthening police relations and promoting participation, effectively using resources, enhancing communications within and cooperation among agencies, and developing creative and innovative approaches that promote excellence in law enforcement.   The organization recognizes 25 agencies each year, then chooses 10 finalists and three award winners. Among the other finalists are police departments from Michigan, Texas, Wisconsin, Delaware, Florida, California, Ontario and New Zealand. "It's an honor for our city and this program to be recognized among these law enforcement agencies," Falls says. "Even being in the top 10 is amazing."
