--> --> AHS boys lose By Chris Miller Ashland Daily Tidings The Ashland boys tennis team took North Medford to court Tuesday, but lost the verdict as the Grizzlies fell 6-3 at North Medford. Grizz coach Dick Streng said he was impressed with Ashland's determination. "We played very good, it was nip and tuck the whole way," he said. Although the Grizz fell to 1-1 in the Southern Oregon Conference and 2-2 overall, Streng felt this match was a good learning experience. "This was a great early season match," Streng said. "It was a good yardstick for us to see how we match up against a good team. We will be better for it." Streng has been playing a young team this year, with three freshmen getting consistent playing time. "I am making sure I get everybody a chance to play, and then we'll go from there," he said. In the singles matches, North Medford's Tyler Wilson defeated Ashland's Ari Zaslov 6-1, 6-4; North's John Falath beat Ashland's Evan Schleining 6-0, 6-4; North's Brady Inn survived Ashland's Shane Lloyd 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-1; Grizz No. 4 Jonathan Willing defeated Marco Martin 6-2, 6-2; and Ashland's Matt Sander outlasted Dustin Loomis 6-4, 6-7, 6-1. The doubles matches ended with the North Medford No. 1 team of Clint Russell and Drew Phillips defeating the Grizz team of Kevin Spears and Lance Streng 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4); North's Andrew Thenn and David Mostue overcame Jacob Doty and Tyler Coke 1-6, 6-4, 6-2; the Grizzlies Jer'wei Chang and Ross Mather toppled Joseph Jackson and Mateo Mingis 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4; and North's Zach Geroux and Tom Tice beat Miles Rooklyn and Jacob River 7-5, 4-6, 7-5.
