The book grew out of a 10-minute writing exercise in Tee Corinne's memoir class in the spring of 2003. Her instructions to the class were, "Write about whatever comes into your head when I say first kiss." Other stories in the collection came from members of different memoir classes and from friends. The book was produced by Hammer's company, Jmar publications. Hammer is a retired business woman who moved from Los Angeles to Southern Oregon in 1997. She joined Corinne's memoir writing class at Rogue Community College. Corinne is the author of one novel, several collections of short stories and six books of poetry. She teaches drawing and memoir writing at Rogue Community College's Community Education. Elise Lockhart has been providing publicity for the publisher. "First Kiss" will have readings and signings at these area book stores: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, at Gold Beach Books, 29419 Ellensburg Ave., Gold Beach. 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 5, at The Book Stop, 212 S.W. Sixth St., Grants Pass. 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 11, at Bloomsbury Books, 290 E. Main St., Ashland. Jmar books are $6 at bookstores and $10 through the mail by calling 773-2584.
