--> --> Aug. 14: Pilots fall in state title game Ashland Daily Tidings PORTLAND - The magical run of the Ashland Pilots came to an end Monday afternoon in the championship game of the American Legion A state tournament. The Pilots dropped just their fifth game of the year - a 10-5 setback to La Grande. Already in the loser's bracket, the Pilots (30-5-1) needed to knock off La Grande twice Monday. For a team that is known for hitting the ball around the yard, the Pilots hurt themselves in the first title game, leaving 13 runners on base. Ashland wasn't much better in the field, committing six errors. La Grande jumped out to a 4-0 lead after four innings and then extended it to 10-1 going into the bottom of the ninth inning. Ashland's Jayson Schroeder belted a three-run home run in the frame, but it wasn't nearly enough for the Pilots. Email your...
