That will be up to the mayor.” He did say that none of the prospective candidates lives locally and none had previous experience as a police officer in Ashland. Grimaldi said the city hopes to have an interim chief selected “within the next few weeks” to replace lame duck Police Chief Mike Bianca, who resigned earlier this month. Grimaldi would not comment on Bianca’s last day of work but did say he expected the interim chief to serve for “four to six months.” He added that Ashland has not yet decided whether it will prioritize hiring a new police chief over a new planning director. “It’s a good question,” Grimaldi said. “That decision has not yet been made.” Bianca agreed to resign in early April after a meeting with Mayor John Morrison. Bianca has said it was not his decision to resign at this time. Morrison said he could not comment on the matter because it concerns personnel.
